Moses Sees God

Moses Sees God (Exodus 33:18-23; 34:29-35)

God’s light is too bright — He had to hide Moses in a cleft of a rock when he passed by because it was too much for Him. God’s light transferred to Moses’ face — and even it became too bright for the people to look at. Moses had to wear a veil to keep the light from hurting their eyes.

Light shines and eliminates darkness. As humans, we are unworthy to be in the presence of the King of Kings. His holiness — His light — would pierce through any darkness and vanquish it; and we, with our sinful nature, would not survive if we try to go near a holy God. That is why Jesus is our rock, and when we are in Jesus, we can finally go near our Father in heaven, just as Moses hid in the rock when the glory of the Lord passed by.

Moses’ face became bright after he spent time with the Lord. The Israelites could clearly see God’s presence in him. When we spend time with God, his light shines on us, and as people see how God works through us and in us, this is how we can also shine for Jesus.
