Seeking God Through A Song

As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?... Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God." - Psalm 42:1-2, 5

The song “As The Deer” written by Martin Nystrom in 1981 from comes from this Psalm and expresses a heartfelt yearning for the Lord’s presence. It speaks of a thirst so great and so specific that nothing else can possibly quench it but God Himself.

Our big sister Allyra learned this song on the harp lyre and we used it for family devotions. We recorded three versions of the song: (1) Kids singing together, (2) The full version of the song (instrumental only), and (3) Asher’s Filipino and English version.

As we sing this song, we pray that the Lord will receive this offering of praise and that our hearts may be opened to be filled with His wonderful presence.
