{"id":971,"date":"2014-01-26T08:23:48","date_gmt":"2014-01-26T08:23:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wonderfullymadekids.wordpress.com\/?p=971"},"modified":"2023-08-19T08:48:55","modified_gmt":"2023-08-19T07:48:55","slug":"fruits-of-the-spirit-lesson-7-part-4-faithfulness-2-corinthians-57","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wonderfullymadekids.com\/index.php\/2014\/01\/26\/fruits-of-the-spirit-lesson-7-part-4-faithfulness-2-corinthians-57\/","title":{"rendered":"Fruits of the Spirit: LESSON 7 PART 4 \u2013 Faithfulness (2  Corinthians 5:7)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fruits of the Spirit: LESSON 7 PART 4 \u2013 Faithfulness (2 \u00a0Corinthians 5:7)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\"><b>Lesson: FAITHFULNESS (We walk by faith, not by sight)<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\">Memory Verse: <i><b>\u201c<\/b><\/i><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><i><b>For we live by faith, not by sight.\u201d &#8211; <\/b><\/i><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><i><b>2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV) \/\u00a0<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\"><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><i><b>\u201cFor we walk by faith, not by sight.\u201d &#8211; 2 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV<\/b><\/i><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\">)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:medium;\"><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><b>Walking by FAITH: <\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\">As we learn from <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i><b>Hebrews 11:1, \u201cNow faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.\u201d <\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\">Faith is not similar to wishful thinking and hoping that things will happen the way we want them to if we are lucky. Faith is based on something REAL and TRUE \u2013 that is why we can have confidence that though we do not see it yet, we have received what we believed. The basis for our faith is God&#8217;s Word. We can illustrate this by looking at the story of how Jesus <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\">and Peter <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\">walked on the water from Matthew 14: 22-33.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><b>The Story:<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"> Jesus had just finished teaching and feeding five thousand people. Jesus then told his disciples to get into a boat and go ahead of him while he stayed to pray. Later that night, while the boat was already far from land <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\">and with the wind causing the waves to pound on the boat<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\">, Jesus went out to them, walking on the water. The disciples got scared, thinking they were seeing <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\">a <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\">ghost, but Jesus cried out, \u201cDon be afraid, it is I.\u201d When Peter heard this, he replied, \u201cLord, if it&#8217;s you, tell me to come to the water.\u201d \u201cCome,\u201d Jesus said. Peter obeyed, got down on the boat and walked on the water. But when Peter looked at the wind, he became afraid and started to sink. He cried out, \u201cLord, save me!\u201d Jesus caught his hand and said, \u201cYou of little faith, why did you doubt?\u201d Then the two of them climbed onto the boat and the wind died down. Those in the boat worshiped Jesus saying, \u201cTruly you are the Son of God.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><b style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;color:#001320;font-size:medium;line-height:1.5em;\">The 3 Steps in Walking By Faith:<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\"><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><b>Hear the Word <\/b><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\">&#8211; Romans 10:17 tells us, \u201cFaith comes by hearing.\u201d When Peter heard the voice of Jesus, faith came. The Word of God is so powerful that when we hear it, faith comes at that very moment. If we do not hear the Word of God, then we will not have faith. If we hear it often, <\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\">faith grows. That is why reading the bible everyday and going to church and Sunday school regularly is important \u2013 this is how our faith is being built up.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\"><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><b>Obey the Word \u2013 <\/b><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\">Faith means obeying \u201cright now.\u201d Delayed obedience is disobedience. When we postpone obedience, we give the enemy time to take away the Word that we received or he may create opportunities to distract us and or cause us to doubt. <\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\">We should hold on to our knowledge of the love and power of God<\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\">; <\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\">trusting Him that He knows what is bes<\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\">t. T<\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\">hat means <\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\">there is <\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\">no room for fear or doubt when we hear God&#8217;s Word telling us to do something.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\"><b>Look unto Jesus \u2013<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\"><i><b>Hebrews 12:2 <\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\">tells us that Jesus is the <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\"><i><b>\u201cauthor and perfecter\u201d<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\"> of faith. When we act in faith, what <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\">will strengthen and sustain us <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\">is <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\">looking<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\"> unto Jesus. <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\">Peter had faith because he heard the voice of Jesus telling him to come. As he acted on that faith, it allowed him to do the impossible \u2013 to walk on water! This reminds us about what faith is not: <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\">f<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\">aith CANNOT be seen or heard or felt. <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\">Instead, faith has<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\"> to be ACTED OUT. <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\">Peter trusted Jesus because he knew Jesus was his friend (Jesus loved him and would not allow him to be harmed) and Jesus was able to do miracles (Peter has seen the demonstration of this power). <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\">Peter started sinking when his eyes shifted from looking <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\">unto<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\"> Jesus to looking at the wind and the waves <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\">(the circumstances around him that contradicts his faith)<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#001320;\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:medium;\">. Our experiences \u2013 the things we see, hear, or feel are not connected to our faith. Faith comes from the Word alone.
