Red Sea Clean Up

Jeddah Homeschoolers from wonderfullymadekids.com, Homeschooling by Grace, and Homeschool Global KSA celebrated the Philippines’ 7th National Homeschool Day with other members of the Homeschool Association of the Philippine Islands by joining hands in cleaning up the Red Sea coast at Khaleej Salman beach.
Did you know that sea turtles often mistake plastic bags for jellyfish and eat them, causing digestive problems and even death?
Did you know that seabirds can ingest up to 8% of their body weight in plastic, which reduces their stomach capacity and makes them feel full?
Did you know that coral reefs, which are home to 25% of all marine life, can get damaged by plastic debris that scrapes, smothers or entangles them?
These are just a few of the reasons why initiatives such as coastal clean ups do matter. True, we can all help in conservation efforts by using less plastics, but we cannot afford to not take action and find ways to also clean up the trash that already is in the beaches and in the water itself. Plastic can take anywhere from 20-500 years to decompose, and many just break down into microplastics that still contaminate our environment.
As we strive to prepare our children to be future-ready, let us also seek to empower them to work towards building a future earth that is a better place to live in.
