Guarding our hearts: Psalm 119: 9-11

“How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
Psalms 119:9‭-11 ESV

This has been our beginning memory verse for this school year, and with the help of Seeds Family Worship, the kids easily memorized it.

Now more than ever, we need to be ready with the “Sword of the Spirit” which is the “Word of God” in order to fight our daily battles with the trials and temptations of this world.

As parents, we have no direct control over the choices that our children will make, especially as they grow older.

But while they are with us, and especially with young kids, we as parents do have a direct influence on them.

This is the time to “train them up in the way they should go,” and pray for them, teach them and guide them, so that “when they grow up they will not depart from it.”

So, that is what we hold on to, and the reason we try our best to have a daily devotion with them, whether they like it or not or are in the mood for it or not. Part of the training is obeying God and spending time meditating on His Word — even when we don’t really feel like it.

Because it is our weapon, our guide and protection. We learn His Words and let them guide our hearts and guard our hearts.
